Diamond-Like Carbon Coatings

  • High Hardness, Scratch and Corrosion Resistant

  • Deposited on Germanium, Silicon, and Other IR Materials

  • Increased Longevity of Harsh Environment Systems

Overview

Anti-reflective (AR) diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings exhibit hardness and resistance to stress and corrosion similar to natural diamonds, making them ideal for harsh environments. DLC coatings provide high transmission in the infrared (IR) and a small friction coefficient, which improves wear resistance and lubricity. They are constructed from nano-composite carbon and are often used in defense applications and other systems exposed to potential scratches, stress, and contamination. World-class metrology ensures that all coatings meet your application needs. Edmund Optics® DLC coatings are compliant with all military durability testing standards. What can we make for you?

Capabilities

DLC Coating Capabilities
Abrasion Resistance* Compliant with MIL-C-48497, MIL-F-48616, and MIL-C-675
Salt Fog Testing 90 Days+
Substrate Materials Germanium, Silicon, and More
*Tested by rubbing part with a standard eraser conforming to MIL-E-12397 with a bearing force between 2 – 2.5 lbs. applied normal to the coated surface. The part is tested for 20 – 200 strokes depending on the end application.
