What is an aspheric lens? In what applications are aspheric lenses used? Kristin Vogt, Product Marketing Manager, answers these questions and more in this easy-to-follow product review video. To learn more, read our All About Aspheric Lenses application note.
A standard spherical lens surface has a fixed radius of curvature, a spherical shape. Aspheric, by definition, means not spherical. An Aspherical lens feature a surface whose radius changes with distance from the optical axis. This unique feature allows Aspheric lenses to eliminate spherical aberration and greatly reduce other aberrations, delivering improved optical performance. Aspheres are ideal for laser focusing applications as they are optimized for small spots size. In addition, a single Aspheric lens can often replace multiple spherical elements in an imaging system.
